Heritiers du Comte Lafon is one of Macon’s finest producers and the Macon Milly Lamartine 2015 is further evidence of this. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically. The winemaking follows no recipe with a variety of vessels used and the proportion of oak determined each year. Warmer vintages tend to see greater oak influence, but under the watchful eye of Dominique Lafon, discretion is the order of the day.
Delightfully pure and mineral, possibly due to the fact that it’s from a higher, cooler vineyard facing east. Wines from this vineyard absolutely shine in warmer vintages and 2015 was one of those. Citrus, green apple, grapefruit and stone fruits aboud, with a long slightly spicy finish. There’s plenty of succulent texture here and nervy freshness. If you can hold onto it do so, because the best is yet to come. A superb example of cool climate Chardonnay.
