“The 2021 Saint-Véran Cuvée Unique delivers aromas of crisp stone fruit, pear, honey, white flowers and classy new oak, standing out as one of the more exotic, demonstrative wines in the range. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it’s seamless and enveloping, with lively acids and a penetrating finish.” 90-92 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Due to the tiny yields this year, this is the only St-Véran in the range – hence it is Unique! This is a blend from all of Guffens’ parcels in the appellation, including the great vineyards of La Combes, Clos de Poncetys and Les Carettes. Clos des Poncetys is a small vineyard that lies below the Vergisson rock, and Guffens has described it as the “Chevalier-Montrachet of Davayé”, a reference to the steepness of the site, the rocky, limestone-rich soil and the site’s ability to produce ultra-pure flavours with tremendous concentration and minerality. La Combes lies on a south-facing slope that brings freshness, while the ballast comes from Les Carettes, a clay-based terroir in Davayé strewn with white rocks.
It’s a deep, dense, concentrated wine with lots of extract and power yet also silky depths, some gentle grip and a long creamy, leesy, iodine-rich close. Very classy oak bringing a twist as well. You see the acidity, and yet, everything is wonderfully balanced and, again, just amazingly seductive. “Seamless” is a good word.

Organic. This wonderful value is an assemblage from several of the Bret brothers’ parcels based in Mâcon-Fuissé and Chaintré, and also from Viré-Clessé La Verchère, Saint-Véran En Combe and Pouilly-Fuissé En Carementrant. Some excellent terroirs and the vines average almost 50 years of age. In addition, the last 50 litres of each of La Soufrandière’s premium wines below (biodynamic and unfiltered) are blended […]
Add to cart Producer: Bret Brothers, La SoufrandiereThe lieux-dit of Les Chevalieres is situated above the village of Meursault. Above is the lieux-dit of Les Luchets, which produces a higher toned, more tensile wine. I can’t help but think that this is ideally situated, in a sense, mid-slope, the perfect aspect in Burgundy. Impossibly complex, with notes of white flowers, lemon, lime, […]

Full bodied, with yellow fruits, grapefruit, orange blossom, lime and lemon zest. Flinty and funky; slight savoury note and a moreish chewiness. For those who never fell out of love with Chardonnay. Moreau’s village Chablis is drawn chiefly from 20- to 30-year-old vineyards in Préhy and Courgis, both south of Chablis. Then, there are parcels in Chablis and Chichée (under the Premier Cru vines of Vaugiraut/Vosgros). All up, the domaine works with 30 parcels scattered across the appellation, representing various soil types and exposures. All the fruit […]
