CRFT Blefari Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

$50.00

Along with the Arranmore, the Blefari is at the pinnacle of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. Lifted aromatics, cooler than the Arranmore, with lemons and limes, grapefruit, flint, green apple and pastry notes. Tight, coiled and intense with spice notes, sleek textured, searing acidity and strong notes of sage and bergamot. Green mango brings it all together – intriguing and compelling and delicious. Considering this is just across the road from the Arranmore they are utterly different from each other. The Arranmore faces east, whilst the Blefari faces west. Proof perhaps that aspect plays a greater role in wine flavours and textures than geology. Buy the pair! Waters Wine Co

Quite a compelling single-vineyard wine; a juicy celebration of chardonnay with impressive complexity. Nougat, apple, nectarine and honeysuckle aromas invite further inspection. Once in, be prepared to be seduced with a fine line of racy acidity tied to concentrated, lively fruit. Quite mouth-watering. 95 Points – Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion 2023

From next door in Carey Gully, Piccadilly Valley (Adelaide Hills). Handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, wild fermented in tank then 7 months in french oak (30% new). Full solids, some stirring, wild malo and natural acid. Pure white nectarine fruit and cleansing acidity that just zips along. Winemaker’s notes

Producer Profile

CRFT Wines (pronounced croft) was founded in 2012 by winemakers Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries. Sourcing fruit from 10 single vineyards across the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley, they make wines from established varietals and relative newcomers. Indeed CRFT are pioneers of Mencia and Gruner Veltliner, their’s unsurpassed in Australia.

CRFT displays the diversity of the Adelaide Hills wine region beautifully, the wines made traditionally and as naturally as possible, sulphur, the only addition. Vineyard definition is key here and the best way to taste the wines is together – to note the very real differences, even though in some cases the vineyards are separated by only a few metres.

All the CRFT wines are exceptional and cannot be beaten for their value for money. The reds, Pinot Noir, Mencia and Shiraz are generous in flavour, with sleek lines, mouthwatering acidity and long savoury tannins. They are energetic and buoyant, compact, coiled and marvelously balanced. The whites too are rich in flavour, with terrific mid-palate stuffing and long frames, carried along by minerals, texture and natural acidity.
