CRFT Arranmore Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

$50.00

A chardonnay lovers chardonnay, and with a twist that can only be defined as unique. There’s a subtle peach skin and flavour that kicks through on the finish. In no way is the wine skinsy or textural, but the hint of peach skin might easily be missed within the swirl of rich, interwoven flavours. Cashew, smoke, flint, white peach, apricot, melon, nougat, lime, mandarin and preserved lemon. No kidding. Complexity rolls onto the palate, luxurious, and for all its abundant freshness; hedonism. Pure, tight and translucent, clotted cream, sage and marjoram. Flavours of yellow and green, herbs, spice and cream. Utterly delicious, one of my favourite Australian chardonnays. Waters Wine Co

From 8 rows on the home block in Piccadilly Valley, 610 metres elevation, North-East facing on clay, schist, gneiss. Handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, wild fermented in tank then 7 months in french oak (30% new). Full solids, some stirring, wild malo and natural acid.  Showing a touch more depth of fruit and purity than the Blefari at this stage, with exotic spice aromatics and Macadamia nut complexity. Producer Profile

CRFT Wines (pronounced croft) was founded in 2012 by winemakers Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries. Sourcing fruit from 10 single vineyards across the Adelaide Hills and Barossa Valley, they make wines from established varietals and relative newcomers. Indeed CRFT are pioneers of Mencia and Gruner Veltliner, their’s unsurpassed in Australia.

CRFT displays the diversity of the Adelaide Hills wine region beautifully, the wines made traditionally and as naturally as possible, sulphur, the only addition. Vineyard definition is key here and the best way to taste the wines is together – to note the very real differences, even though in some cases the vineyards are separated by only a few metres.

All the CRFT wines are exceptional and cannot be beaten for their value for money. The reds, Pinot Noir, Mencia and Shiraz are generous in flavour, with sleek lines, mouthwatering acidity and long savoury tannins. They are energetic and buoyant, compact, coiled and marvelously balanced. The whites too are rich in flavour, with terrific mid-palate stuffing and long frames, carried along by minerals, texture and natural acidity.
