Citrus, just think citrus. Lime that’s fresh juice, zest and preserved, Tangelo, Ruby Grapefruit, Mandarin blossom, gentle spice and Gardenia. Concentrated and deep, such a threading the needle attack, so precise and linear, then pincering the palate with wave after wave of flavour. Intense, dazzling and vital, with a finish that goes on and on. Waters Wine Co
Less that 20% of the usual volume made. This wine is made without additions of yeast, nutrients or enzymes. Once the juice is in the barrel a small amount of sulphur is added and then we wait, usually about five days, for the fermentation to begin. The wine spent 10 months on yeast lees in French barrels, of which 25% were new, and was bottled in late February. Typical and distinctive aromas of grapefruit and lemon with jasmine blossom lift from the glass and with time gently creamy and savoury/spicy aromas emerge. The palate is full, fresh, chalky, zesty, harmonious and quite smooth. It’s early days and five years of careful cellaring will see a building of complexity and texture.

Almost invariably the most sought after wine of the release, no doubt due to the fame of this vineyard. A real statement of Yarra cool, waving the flag for contemporary Australian Chardonnay, pioneered in the Yarra Valley. Almost Puligny like in it’s initial aromatic reticence and floral notes. But with a bit of warmth, comes […]
Add to cart Producer: A RoddaA great introduction to the estate, very much of their style and what one tends to expect from these parts. Lovely lift, with lemon, lime preserve, savoury spice, white flowers and yellow fruits. Pulpy and juicy, thoroughly abundant, with cream, spice some citrus zest, mandarin and white peach. Good energy to balance the satiny richness. […]

Hughes and Hughes’ 2022 Chardonnay exhibits white stone fruit, overlaying citrus and gentle reduction and oak aromas. Racy acidity balanced by rich textures – classic, nicely complex Chardonnay. Waters Wine Co Fruit from vineyards in the Coal River and Derwent Valleys. 80% whole bunch pressed, 20% cold-soaked on skins for five days, all naturally […]
Read more Producer: Hughes & HughesA soft, delicate, restrained wine with aromas of white flowers and a whiff of almond meal. Cashew-nutty too. A more straightforward style and a trifle short on the finish compared to other vineyards. It’s remarkably backward and restrained considering it’s the lowest altitude vineyard and earliest harvested. 92 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review […]
