Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres 2019

“The king of the cellar is the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, a deep and concentrated wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, peach, freshly baked bread, white flowers, ripe citrus fruits and buttered popcorn. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a layered, multidimensional profile and a long, saline finish, it has turned out brilliantly.” 94+ points, William Kelley, the Wine Advocate

“Most of the vines are massal selections planted between 1972 and 1978. Sulphured before the harvest and racked after. Pale lemon and lime, very stylish. Really refined, a touch of the expected juniper and verbena, all about the vineyard. Potentially a really fine classic here. Genevrières doesn’t fluctuate from one year to the next, in Antoine’s opinion.” 93-96 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The Jobards’ 0.7-hectare parcel lies next to the iconic Genevrières cabotte (or workers cottage) in Genevrières Dessous and the vines are 35 years old. Year-in and year-out, this is a wine of great depth, purity and intensity—a characteristic Jobard attributes to the quality of his vine material, a massale selection planted in the 1960s. “Here, we always get well-formed berries, we don’t see deterioration or either under- or over-ripe grapes. It is always very well balanced. We always have good pH and incredible acidity”, he says—something important in these drier and warmer vintages.
