Veuve Fourny produces fabulous Cuvees of ridiculously good quality. This fruit comes from several plots near the village of Vertus where the topsoil sits over chalk. 80% Chardonnay for finesse and elegance, 20% Pinot Noir for body and texture. The Chardonnay plots are quite fine and mineral, whilst the Pinot Noir component is fuller, richer and more fleshy. Hand-picked from vines averaging 40 years old this wine exhibits fine but complex and funky aromas, typical of Vertus. Quite chalky and creamy with some bakery, yeasty character from the Pinot Noir. 40% reserve wines from previous vintages added. Excellent combination of fruit and subtle biscuit aromas. A lovely, balanced Champagne.
