Jerome Prevost and Ulysse Colin are two of the top growers in Champagne and their wines are some of the most sought-after in the region.
Pack contains 1 bottle each of the following:
Already drinking beautifully, with an open, pulpy texture and layers of bosc pear, white peach, lemon curd, and citrus pith. There is also hay again, and plenty of spice, but this is finer than La Closerie, more restrained and altogether in a greater class. There is terrific energy and freshness. It will certainly age well, even if it is stunning already. A great vintage for this wine, no doubt about that!
Ulysse Collin Les Maillons Blanc de Noirs
The current release is based on 2016 with 60% reserve wine from 2015, disgorged in March 2020. This beautifully textured and perfumed Blanc de Noirs comes from a site in Barbonne-Fayel in the Côte de Sézanne. Aged in three- to six-year-old barrels (including some foudres) for the first seven months of its life. Disgorged with only 2.4 grams. This a super Maillons, loaded with blackcurrant jube, pink salt and potpourri characters on both the nose and palate, superb texture and grip but also driven freshness. Off the charts deliciousness.
The NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Maillons (2016 base) is effusive in its aromatics and also wonderfully deep, while also remaining light on its feet. This is an eccentric, heady style that really emphasizes the breadth of Pinot in its perfumed, fruit and structural feel. I would give the Maillons a bit more time in bottle to fully come together. Bright saline notes cut through a core of sweet red cherry, kirsch, dried flowers and spice. I loved it. 94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
