Incredibly subtle and fine. Complex aromas of citrus, cut hay, white flowers, honey, white chocolate and nougat. The palate is a beguiling mix of pure fruit and mineral tension. Pillow soft in the mouth with great energy and freshness. One of the finest NV Champagnes on the market, at any price point. Serve this in a Burgundy glass. Waters Wine Co
The NV Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs marries power with energy to a degree I have not seen before here. In this edition, the Brut Nature is decidedly powerful and broad, with less of the tension seen in some previous releases. It’s as if all the Chardonnay flavors have been turned up to the maximum. Orange peel, apricot, chamomile and spice are some of the many notes that fill out the layers. The current release is based on 2017, with reserve wines from 2016 and 2015, all done in neutral oak. Zero dosage. 92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
100% Chardonnay from the family’s most mineral soils in Chavot and Épernay – all sites that are biodynamically farmed. These vineyards are very rich in chalk and limestone but there is also marl (chalky clay), flint and schist. This ‘chalkiness’ explains the wine’s intensely pungent minerality (energy, freshness) and zingy, citric lines while the clay content gives fruit weight and texture. Aged for just over two years in bottle following a first fermentation in large cask and epoxy-lined tanks. Like all Laherte’s Champagne, this was disgorged by hand.
