Jerome Prevost doesn’t declare a vintage with his wines. Instead his wines bare the code LC. (Lot Consigné and the vintage year, in this case 2017).mThe fruit is sourced from the Prevost’s organically managed 2.2 hectare vineyard “Les Beguines”, located about 10km west of Reims in the Champagne region. “Les Beguines” is about 95% planted to pinot meunier with the remainder chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot blanc.
La Closerie is disgorged after 18 months on lees and has approx. 2.5 grams per litre of dosage, making it an extra brut champagne. In youth the Les Beguines displays, honeysuckle, creme brulee and brioche. Prevost’s wines are indeed age-worthy, with up to a 10 year potential, however just two years in the cellar can allow some secondary characters to come to the fore. Inimitable.
