Chartogne-Taillet Cuvee Sainte Anne Brut NV

$95.00

Named for the patron saint of Merfy, this comes from mature parcels of vines in both Merfy and Saint-Thierry. These diverse, sand- and limestone-rich terroirs contribute to the wine’s vibrancy and finesse. Each plot is vinified uniquely, and blended to create a balance where site expression is front and foremost. The wines (equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) are raised in old oak barrels of numerous sizes and in a small proportion in stainless steel tank. The reserve wine component is close to 50%, and the dosage is approximately 4.7 g/L.

Producer Profile

Alexandre Chartogne is making the finest wines of his career. Mentored by Anselme Selosse, Alexandre places great importance on terroir – employing environmentally friendly practices in the vineyard and reducing dosage to let the fruit do the talking. The family estate encompasses 11 hectares of vineyards in Merfy and the neighbouring villages of Chenay and Saint-Thierry. The majority is ploughed by horse, with no pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilisers used.

All fermentations are wild, and malo is not blocked. Alexandre utilises wooden barrels or demi-muids and lets his wines age longer before release, hence the single-sites are only just released when many other houses are onto their next vintage.
