Planted in 1978, the Halcyon Block Sophie exists on karri loam over white clay soil and is extremely low cropping. Basket pressed, fermented matured in concrete eggs. Excellent for the warmer days. It’s a light skin contact red wine which is refreshingly tasty.
Strong rose petal scents, raspberry, cherry and whiffs of old spice cupboard spiciness. Juicy in the palate, transparent, clear, lightly crunchy, mouth-watering, wet-pebble acidity underpinning light cherry and dried strawberry flavours. So delicate but with so much tension. Beautiful wine. 94 Points – Mike Bennie, The Winefront
