2017 is the first ever release of the Mother’s Shiraz. It has an intense aromatic profile that is very true to the Tyrrell’s style with an abundance of summer fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy with only the subtle influence of oak.
Mother’s vineyard is situated adjacent to Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s house and has always been known as Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother who lived there. This block was replanted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s and Old Patch ensuring that Tyrrell’s best Shiraz vineyard clones are preserved.
The 2017 growing season was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in winter and spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when harvested. The Mother’s was the last Shiraz of the vintage to be harvested. Handpicked and made in the same fashion as Tyrrell’s other top Shiraz wines. Matured in a single three-year-old French oak cask (2700L) for 15 months.

Always the most overtly structured of the Yeringberg offerings, the 2018 vintage Shiraz has a tannic presence rarely seen in Australia. Medium bodied, tightly wound, and needing vigorous coaxing, when it does finally appear, the intensity of entry is worth the wait. Gripping the mouth with firm, coating tannins offering red fruits, blueberry, lavender, camphor, […]
Add to cart Producer: YeringbergSourced from the Harcourt vineyard, ala Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Shiraz 2021, made quite differently. The aromatics are totally Heathcote; sweet earth, campfire, iodine, Serrano, sweet dark fruits and violets. Medium to full bodied, it’s round and sensual, cut through with rich, gourmand tannins. Such a contrast with the POCW, proving if t were […]
Add to cart Producer: BindiAlways a classic Hunter “Burgundy style”, the 2017 OPV must surely be the best we’ve tasted since 2011. Elegant and open with red, blue and black fruits, five spice, violets, vanilla, campfire and autumnal notes. Tannins are fine and expansive, coupling with ripe acidity that really drives the flavour along. Beautifully weighted, drinks like a […]
Add to cart Producer: Chateau PatoThis shiraz fruit comes from an original By Farr site, planted in 1994 in black cracking clay soil, which dries very quickly. This is the first of the shiraz vineyards to be picked and, being the warmer site, fits perfectly into the Farr Rising line-up. Farr Rising shiraz shows how refinement and fruit flavour can […]
