2017 is the first ever release of the Mother’s Shiraz. It has an intense aromatic profile that is very true to the Tyrrell’s style with an abundance of summer fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy with only the subtle influence of oak.
Mother’s vineyard is situated adjacent to Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s house and has always been known as Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother who lived there. This block was replanted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s and Old Patch ensuring that Tyrrell’s best Shiraz vineyard clones are preserved.
The 2017 growing season was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in winter and spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when harvested. The Mother’s was the last Shiraz of the vintage to be harvested. Handpicked and made in the same fashion as Tyrrell’s other top Shiraz wines. Matured in a single three-year-old French oak cask (2700L) for 15 months.

Such a contrast with the POCW, proving if t were […]

Soft ripe tannins and piquant acidity drive and carry the wine. A wonderful example of the modern, medium bodied Hunter Valley Shiraz. Unbelievable complexity and detail for a […]

Planted in 1960 and 1990 on the Seaview side of the vineyard on red/brown clay over limestone, these vines are farmed using organic principles and without irrigation where possible. The soil and age of the […]
