Co-fermented shiraz viognier. The colour is deep purple-crimson. Richly robed in the folds of deeply coloured velvet, its colour, bouquet and palate all contributing. The fusion of fruit, tannin and spice is superb; all the flavours one could wish for; the tactile mouthfeel likewise. Masterful winemaking. 97 points, Halliday Wine Companion 2020
By design, La Maline has always been Spinifex’s purest and most finely structured expression of Barossa Shiraz. Made in tiny quantities. The wine is cropped from meticulously tended terroir: 25-120-year-old, dry-grown vines from seven high-altitude sites spread across the Eden and Barossa Valleys.
All fruit hand harvested and cooled overnight. Around 30-40% of bunches were retained depending on the vineyard. Fermented in small open stainless steel and wooden fermenters, with indigenous yeasts. Approximately 1% pressed Viognier marc was added during fermentation. Raised on light lees in a selection of thick staved 600 litre demi muids, and some barriques. Unfined and bottled without filtration.
