Grown on the sandy loam soils of Ingoldby Road, only meters from where this wine was created. The result; a flavour profile that captures the essence of the region. Dark blue and black fruits, medium to full bodied with savoury structured tannins. This is a modern take on McLaren Vale Shiraz with lots of detail and drinkability. Enjoy now or cellar for years to come. – Saltfleet
From the Stevens vineyard in McLaren Flat on sandy loam; a little whole bunch; neutral French oak for 10 months. An elevated nose, fragrant with spices and dried woody herbs, bay and the scent of warm bush air. The cool year gives this appealing line, with no fat; still with dark fruits over red, but refined, savoury, accented with tarry mineral notes, cassia and brown cardamom. There’s good tension here, and appealing amaro and sour cherry notes through the lengthy finish up the interest considerably. 95 points – Halliday Wine Companion

Locals of McLaren Vale, Jonny Cook and Kyle Egel met at high school, forming a vinous bond that has morphed into Saltfleet. The fruit’s local too, sourced from some of the finest sites in the region. The wines are handled minimally and gently, made in such tiny quantities (just a single barrel for most of the reds), the fruit has to be perfect and the winemaking on point. And so it is.
These are classically styled wines, a homage to McLaren Vale and a nod to the future with newer varietals to the region such as Fiano, Chenin Blanc and Touriga Nacional among the range. Richly fruited, succulent, vibrant, curvaceous and with great movement, Saltfleet are only a few vintages in and already making great wines with humble resources. No doubt about it, a star or two is born.
