Part of Murdoch Hill’s Oakbank vineyard, the Cronberry Block is a predominately east-facing slope, producing Shiraz of noteworthy finesse on predominately sandy loam soils, over medium clay and varying levels of ironstone, quartz and schist rock. This wine gets the small-batch treatment – hand-picked, open-fermented with 25% whole bunches and raised for ten months predominantly in used French oak. According to the winemaker this is a typical cool climate Shiraz with fragrant perfumed red fruits, pepper and spice notes. The palate shows succulent raspberries and cherries, a medium smooth bodied wine. The tannins are fine and savory with lingering red fruits and spice, gentle but persistent.
