Luke Lambert’s Crudo Shiraz has always been about youthful charm: it’s a young, vibrant and juicy red, with the Yarra’s granitic Denton Hill outcrop helping to tick all those boxes. It’s a warmer site than the Tibooburra vineyard (from where the Estate Syrah is sourced) and so the wine is naturally juicier and more primary-fruit-driven.
Despite the cooler year, Luke explains that this release is “probably the ripest Crudo Shiraz we’ve made. We held the fruit on the vine longer than normal as conditions were so ideal”. It’s a striking, delicious rendition of this wine, similar in style to 2019 release, while still retaining the delicious freshness of red and black fruit complemented by some Indian spice from the mild growing season and cool nights. As is the norm, the wine was fermented wild (with 60% whole bunches) and raised in 5,000-litre old oak cask before being bottled without fining or filtration.
