“Estate-grown fruit, 78% Greenock, 18% Moppa, 4% Marananga. No whole bunches. Matured 22 months in 3% new French, 58% seasoned French, 2% new American and 30% seasoned American oak hogsheads and 7% seasoned French oak barriques. Unfined and unfiltered. 3670 dozen. If the old adage that every estate should be judged on its entry-level wine is true, the Kalleske family’s Laughing Jack is in jovial form. Bright red and black fruits are set to a classic Barossa backdrop of Mettwurst, with French oak sensitively deployed to lend more structure than flavour. Fine tannins will see it out for some years yet.” 90 Points – Tyson Stelzer, Halliday Wine Companion 2022
This perennial overachiever is sourced from the Kalleske family’s mature Greenock and Moppa Hill vineyards. The grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented as whole berries. Following fermentation the wine was then fed to oak barrels, with skins hand-shovelled out of the fermenters into the basket press. The blended wine was then matured for 20 months in hogsheads. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
