The 2017 Laughing Jack Jack’s Shiraz has a magnificent dark core with a crimson/purple rim. A lively mix of plums, mulberry and blackberry entice on the nose, as well as lavender, herbs and a touch of mixed spice. With juicy forest fruits upfront it has a delicate nature and an unassuming powerful side. Lingering spice compliments the solid back palate, finishing with fine grain tannins. Winemaker Shawn Kalleske thinks he’s hit the nail on the head with this one – “the perfect weight for Jack’s Shiraz, this wine is everything it should be and more!” and it would be hard to argue otherwise. In a Barossan context, it’s the life of the party!
This perennial overachiever is sourced from the Kalleske family’s mature Greenock and Moppa Hill vineyards. The 2017 blend weighs in at 52% Greenock and 48% Moppa. The grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented as whole berries. Following fermentation the wine was then fed to oak barrels, with skins hand-shovelled out of the fermenters into the basket press. The blended wine was then matured for 20 months in hogsheads. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
