Iggy Springton Eden Valley Syrah 2020

There’s no mistaking where this comes from. Super vibrant aromatics of violets, cassis, kirsch, chocolate, blueberry, raspberry and charcoal. Rich and full bodied. Very powerful indeed, yet with precision and a sort of tactile grace. Some subtle sweet meat and game notes, which will no doubt come through more as the wine ages. Still, the fruit is vibrant and fresh, cooling with sage and mint. Balanced and seamless, in a sweet spot at the moment, all the elements combining perfectly. Syrah sourced from the Eden Valley hamlet of Springton. Wild ferment, matured in seasoned oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. The wine sports finely honed aromatics of black cherry, blackcurrant, plum compote and blueberry flan with hints of fine spice, sage, bay leaf, licorice, softly spoken oak and polished leather. It cuts a graceful, savoury path across the palate, tannins powdery and true with spiced cherry and blueberries on the exit. 95 Points – Halliday Wine Companion

 

Dark red colour, concentrated, and solidly structured, yet retaining the elegancy and finesse of Eden Valley. Lifted aromas of black currant, sour cherry, blueberry, dry sage, and a hint of leather. On the palate there is a sensation of bright acidity supported by well-integrated tannins. Aftertaste lingers, suggesting notes of liquorice. Think of succulent braised lamb.
