Bekkers’ flagship wine is designed as an emblem for McLaren Vale and Bekkers. Careful vineyard selection and gentle winemaking combine to deliver a beautiful wine. It has the generosity of McLaren Vale Shiraz, tempered by fragrance, spice and soft, silky texture.
“A 52/48% blend of Clarendon and Seaview fruit, 80% destemmed, 20% whole bunches, 5 days cold soak, wild-fermented, matured in French puncheons, bottled November ’17, released Aug ’18. Deeply coloured; as usual, a very complex shiraz loaded to the gills with the blackest of black fruits. While tannins and new oak are an essential part of the bouquet and palate, they remain the servants of the fruit. Even in this display of power, there is balance and symmetry that will guarantee a minimum 40-year life.” 97 points, James Halliday, Wine Companion 2019
“Meaty and baked and rich on the nose, gorgeously spiced and smoky. Velvet texture and a long, very savoury ferrous character to finish. Such density! Tannins like fine, feathery down. And of course that opulent Aussie black fruit melding everything together. One of the best vintages of this beauty.” 18/20 Jancisrobinson.com (RH)
