Voliero Rosso di Montalcino 2019

$50.00

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino lifts up with a pretty herbal and floral display, gaining richness with time in the glass, as wild strawberries and brown spice come forward with hints of white pepper and smoke. It boasts silky textures over a medium-bodied frame, with masses of ripe red and black berries contrasted by salty minerals. A gorgeous inner sweetness lingers, tapering off to inner violet tones with an underlying twang of tart citrus. There’s really quite a lot going on here for a Rosso which may become even more expressive with short-term cellaring. 91 points – Eric Guido, vinous.com

Voliero is another estate from Andrea Cortonesi, this time from the cooler northern slopes of Montalcino. The wines from Voliero are more refined and elegant, Burgundian in their silken texture.

The Rosso is 100% Sangiovese from 15-25 year old vines grown in clay soils.  Cold maceration with the skins at 10-12 degrees Celsius (the number of days depends on the characteristics of the grapes). Fermentation in steel with temperature control for 18-20 days.
