Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva 2017

$90.00

Sangiovese as Burgundy. Lifted aromatics of red and dark cherry, dried cranberry, raspberry, lavender, geranium and sage. Expansive palate, with an almost effortless poise. Medium bodied, vivid, the tannins absorbed by the longer wood ageing, making them longer, sculptural and melting. Wonderful interplay of fresh, crunchy red fruits, earth, herbs, spice and flowers. Very long carry, aided by tangy acids, that melt and meld into fruit and texture. Amazing wine and as with the entire range, an absolute bargain. Waters Wine Co

Made with organically farmed grapes, this offers enticing aromas of camphor, blue flower, new leather and dark spice. The smooth, delicious palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and tobacco framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Drink through 2027. 94 Points – Kerrin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of flowers and fresh cherries with hints of lemon rind, following through to a medium body with lively, vivid fruit and an energetic finish. Compressed palate. Very refined for the hot vintage. From organically grown grapes. 94 Points – James Suckling

The Badia Coltibuono estate in Gaiole is one of the birthplaces of Chianti and one of the oldest wineries in Europe. The word Badia means ‘Abbey’ and Coltibuono means ‘Good Harvest and as a monastery it produced wine almost 1,000 years ago, with the Stucchi-Prinetti family owning the estate since 1846. One of the first wineries in Chianti Classico to convert to organic viticulture, Coltibuono is focused on traditional viticultural practices with massale selection, indigenous yeasts, dry farming, increasing biodiversity, minimizing tilling, using compost in the vineyards and less green harvesting.
