Impenetrable colour. Gorgeous nose of blackcurrant, kirsch, lavender and a touch of mint. Full bodied, like a Brett Whiteley nude, with glossy blue and black fruits, cigar box, coal dust, chocolate and cherries. Firm, gripping tannins tussle with the fruit, but the volume of fruit is colossal. Unbelievable power.
The Alan’s Cabernet is a blend of four varieties, and sometimes five if the Petit Verdot can reach full ripeness. The vineyard is naturally low yielding at less than one kilogram per vine. This allows the berries to develop naturally thick skins, giving an intense texture coupled with aromatic complexity. Gently hand plunged and basket pressed, then matured in 100% new French oak hogsheads for up to 20 months. This wine shows natural vintage variation but has a unique character that only this vineyard can give. With careful cellaring, this wine is capable of living for 20 years or longer.
