Michel Lafarge Passetoutgrain L’Exception 2019

One of our favourite styles, sadly unfashionable. Soaring, as always, with red fruit and berry compote with a dusting of vanilla. So lively and fresh, more succulence than the 2017 and slightly more tannins. Acidity is incredible, present from the moment it hits the tongue, all the way to the finish. We love this wine. Serious, serious fun. Waters Wine Co

From vines planted in 1930 producing just 22Hl/Ha. This wine is a field blend of 50/50 mix of pinot and gamay on a gravelly site near Meursault. When the Domaine started making wine in 1934, the estate only bottled this cuvée and Volnay Clos des Chènes.

Racked the previous week to my visit, the 2019 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain has a lilting nose with red cherry and crushed strawberry. The palate is well balanced, simple but fresh with raspberry and strawberry with the 50% Gamay component lending blue fruit on the finish. Fine. Drink 2021-2024’ (85-87) points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Scents of sweet berry fruit, spices and peonies preface the 2019 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain l’Exception, a medium-bodied, bright and precise red that’s pretty and immediate, even if its track record confirms that it will age with grace. 88 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate Jan 2021

An exuberantly fresh nose features notes of pepper and earth on the pretty red berry fruit aromas. There is excellent delineation and density to the highly energetic flavors that possess impressive complexity and persistence on the mildly rustic finale. This is excellent for what it is and the old vines are very much in evidence. OUTSTANDING. 86-89 points, Allen Meadow, Burghound Jun 2021
