Badenhorst Family Red 2019

A fascinating, beautiful wine, evidence of the wondrous nature of blends. Like the Family White, this is a historic and unique wine, a blend of varietals not seen in other parts of the world. Aromatic and ethereal with savoury spice, earth, smoke, plum and  blackberry. Medium bodied, sleek and mineral with ferrous elements, pure fruit, sweet and savoury spice and a texture that begins as velvet and firms to a squeeze. Incredible wine, utterly elemental and yet all is one, threaded and integrated. Approachable now, but I would love to see this in a decade or so. Waters Wine Co

The Shiraz and supporting varieties, Cinsault, Grenache, and Tinta Barocca, are all hand harvested on the same day. The whole bunches are foot stomped to start fermentation; the destemmed grapes are started in both concrete and large wooden vats.
