Smells of the Mornington Peninsula in autumn. Damp earth, woodsy and mushroom, spiked with tangy cherries. It’s a lovely wine. Juicy and zesty and framed by its medium-bodied palate and velvety tannins. A delicious drink. 94 Points – Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion 2022
Quealy’s Campbell and Christine Pinot Noir is a super seductive, layered and wildly perfumed Pinot. Cropped at less than two tonnes to the acre, only the free-run juice from the fermentation was settled and racked into 500-litre puncheons (roughly a quarter new). Unusually for this producer, McCarthy used a portion of whole-bunch this year – some 40% across two ferments – bringing extension and shape to the palate and adding some spice to the fleshy, ripe strawberry fruit and forest floor hints.
