Onannon Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2021

$42.00

Such a change from the light, sour red fruit numbers so prevalent in the Mornington ten years ago. Alluring aromatics of rhubarb, plum, blueberry, cola and sarsaparilla. Round, vibrant and vivid, sweet and tangy red fruits, some earthy notes, sap and cut flowers. Intense, the flavours are super bright, rich melting tannins and there is so much power and weight that you wouldn’t normally expect at this price point. Very long carry suggesting a very long life ahead. Waters Wine Co

A blend of three vineyards – Onannon’s original Red Hill site (26 year old vines, MV6, 777) and a site in Flinders (16 year old vines, MV6, 115, 114) and a new site in Red Hill (30 year old, D5 and D2). The fruit from all sites was handpicked and then transported back to the winery where it sat in a cool room overnight. All the 777 and some of the MV6 clone from the Red Hill site is the whole bunch portion.

All the remaining fruit was destemmed and cool soaked for 4-5 days until Indigenous fermentation took place. The primary fermentation took between 5-8 days after which both ferments had one week post maceration. Natural MLF finished within 12 weeks, after which time the wine was racked and sulphured. Bottled in December.
