Nicole Lamarche Grand Cru Echezeaux 2018

The Lamarche Echézeaux comes from three lieux-ditsLes Cruots ou Vignes Blanches, Clos-Saint-Denis, and Les Champs Traversins. Altogether these parcels make up about 1.3 hectares of vines with an average age of 30 years. Nicole Lamarche works with very low yields here, which, alongside the Domaine’s delicate extraction, results in a superb expression of this terroir. It’s a terrific value Grand Cru.

The Lamarches are fortunate to have as much as 1.32ha in all, over three plots which are vinified together. Pretty pink purple. The nose offers a little more depth than the 1ers crus without changing register. Fresh red fruits, nicely ripe but not heavy. Alpine strawberry, full red cherry and light raspberry. Beautifully balanced on the palate with the requisite lacy quality and a light touch to the acidity. Fine length. 93-97 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

A riper nose reflects notes of poached plum, red currant, violet and a plethora of spice suggestions. The supple and relatively forward mid-palate of the moderately dense flavors immediately tighten up on the impressively complex and persistent finish that is shaped by a notably firm tannic spine that will require extended patience to resolve. I like the vibrancy and this is really quite good. 90-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
