With the price of Australian Pinot Noir rising ever upwards, it seems ironic that Burgundy is at last providing some proper value. The business card wine from Jean Marc Pavelot the 2018 Les Beaune highlights the bright, exuberant generosity of the vintage with the producer’s love of fruit driven, balanced and digestible wines. There is that hint of Savigny spice, red fruits and discreet oak. Really lovely, silky palate with fine but firm tannins exerting some stiff authority. Waters Wine Co.
The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village has a pastille-like purity on the nose of red cherries and wild strawberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of spice on the entry, and well balanced; a little earthiness surfaces toward the finish. Excellent. Drink 2022-2032. 88-91 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jan 2020
