Henri Germain Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge 2020

$225.00

“The 2020 Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge wafts from the glass with aromas of rich berry fruit, warm spices, rose petals and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, rich and vibrant, its fleshy core of fruit is framed by ripe, powdery tannins and lively acids.” 90-92 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

This should not be confused with the Beaune Premier Cru of the same name. Meursault’s Clos des Mouches is a tiny monopole belonging exclusively to Henri Germain and devoted entirely to Pinot Noir. It could be labelled as Volnay, as most reds from Meursault are, but Germain chooses to call a Meursault a Meursault. The half-hectare site lies near the Volnay border, due south of Les Santenots. The old Pinot Fin vines (planted in 1949) produce very low yields—under 25 hl/ha in a good year. It’s one of the few remaining walled vineyards in Meursault and the 2020 from here is superb, fleshy and layered. If only we had more!
