Gerard Julien & Fils Bourgogne Rouge Origine 2020
$75.00
I’m not sure why, but there has never been a better time to drink Bourgogne rouge or blanc. Usually the least expensive option, also meant poor value. But this is something else. Intense aromatics of sweet raspberry, strawberry, plum, blackberry, subtle wood and minerals. It’s the lightest wine in the range, but carries plenty of flavour and finessed texture. Designed for delicious drinking and not as an emblem of the estate style – you’ll have to try the Nuits-St-Georges for that. The Bourgogne rouge is incredible value, rockier and stony in the mouth, mouthwatering and long. Waters Wine Co
‘Ripe aromas blend both red and dark currant with those of earth and a hint of game. The delicious middleweight flavors possess both good detail and verve before terminating in a youthfully austere and mildly rustic finish that displays good persistence.’ 86 points, Allen Meadow’s Burghound Jan 2022
