This is Mortet’s ‘super Gevrey’, from an outstanding clutch of five brilliantly placed terroirs that Denis Mortet deliberately chose for the quality of their terroirs and vines. The vineyards include En Motrot, situated between the church and Château de Gevrey-Chambertin, close to Clos Saint-Jacques; Au Vellé, very close-by under Petits Cazetiers; La Combe du Dessus, situated at the top of the Brochon slope just north-east of Gevrey itself; En Champs directly below Gevrey’s 1er Cru Champeaux (the vines here are over 70 years old); and En Dérée, below En Champs on the Brochon border.
Only 30% new barrels were used here and 15% whole bunches. This is simply outstanding and would have no problem passing for 1er status in a blind line up.
The five terroirs in question here are Champ, En Derée, Vellé, Combes du Dessus and En Motrot, all of which are on the north side of Gevrey-Chambertin. This is always one of the best village Gevreys on the market, easily as good as many producers’ premiers crus. With 15% whole bunches and 30% new wood, this is a balanced, spicy, pithy red with glossy tannins, freshness and stylish oak. 93 points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter

Claude makes one of the great Bourgogne Pinot Noirs, he is often the winner of the La Revue du Vin de France tasting when they do it – he did it with his 2016 (see image at the bottom) and this 2018 is super again. Crafted from the Pommard and Chassagne area, in 2018 the bouquet […]
Add to cartOnly 180 bottles in the country. Dureuil’s village Rully is drawn from three organically managed plots—Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot—which cover just under three hectares in total. The average age of these vines is now 50 years. The 2020 fermented with a pinch of bunch and raised for 12 months in one-third new oak. Janthial […]

Quite powerful, not quite so harmonious but note that this has been tasted directly after the sublime Nuits-St-Georges Aux Boudots. Actually, this is a fine and nicely nuanced Vosne-Romanée.” 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy “There is a very pretty, perfumed and high-toned […]
Add to cartDeep colour, dusky red with a trace of purple in the meniscus; the bouquet is initially big on stalky whole-bunch fermented characters, root vegetables, gradually giving way to dark cherries and dark plums. The palate is full and rich, a bigger bone pinot showing generous smoky oak character as well, bright acidity energising the finish […]
