This is Mortet’s ‘super Gevrey’, from an outstanding clutch of five brilliantly placed terroirs that Denis Mortet deliberately chose for the quality of their terroirs and vines. The vineyards include En Motrot, situated between the church and Château de Gevrey-Chambertin, close to Clos Saint-Jacques; Au Vellé, very close-by under Petits Cazetiers; La Combe du Dessus, situated at the top of the Brochon slope just north-east of Gevrey itself; En Champs directly below Gevrey’s 1er Cru Champeaux (the vines here are over 70 years old); and En Dérée, below En Champs on the Brochon border.
Only 30% new barrels were used here and 15% whole bunches. This is simply outstanding and would have no problem passing for 1er status in a blind line up.
The five terroirs in question here are Champ, En Derée, Vellé, Combes du Dessus and En Motrot, all of which are on the north side of Gevrey-Chambertin. This is always one of the best village Gevreys on the market, easily as good as many producers’ premiers crus. With 15% whole bunches and 30% new wood, this is a balanced, spicy, pithy red with glossy tannins, freshness and stylish oak. 93 points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter

Star anise, sweet English summer fruits, Bresaola, lavender and damp leaf. Sweet and tangy fruits, picked at the perfect moment, serpentine, supple, brooding and haunting. Every sniff and sip reveals something different. Serrano, blood orange, chocolate, Middle Eastern spice and long silky tannins that tighten along the finish. Exquisite balance, the wine in constant motion. […]

The 2019 is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. Leroux notes the cooler, hillside fruit from Les Vaumuriens brings freshness and balance to the blend. […]
Add to cart Producer: Benjamin LerouxOnly 180 bottles in the country. Dureuil’s village Rully is drawn from three organically managed plots—Le Meix Cadot, Rosey and Montagne de Remenot—which cover just under three hectares in total. The average age of these vines is now 50 years. The 2020 fermented with a pinch of bunch and raised for 12 months in one-third new oak. Janthial […]
Add to cart Producer: Vincent Dureuil-JanthialThe Lamarche Echézeaux comes from three lieux-dits: Les Cruots ou Vignes Blanches, Clos-Saint-Denis, and Les Champs Traversins. Altogether these parcels make up about 1.3 hectares of vines with an average age of 30 years. Nicole Lamarche works with very low yields here, which, alongside the Domaine’s delicate extraction, results in a superb expression of this terroir. Of this cuvée, Jasper Morris has […]
