This is Mortet’s ‘super Gevrey’, from an outstanding clutch of five brilliantly placed terroirs that Denis Mortet deliberately chose for the quality of their terroirs and vines. The vineyards include En Motrot, situated between the church and Château de Gevrey-Chambertin, close to Clos Saint-Jacques; Au Vellé, very close-by under Petits Cazetiers; La Combe du Dessus, situated at the top of the Brochon slope just north-east of Gevrey itself; En Champs directly below Gevrey’s 1er Cru Champeaux (the vines here are over 70 years old); and En Dérée, below En Champs on the Brochon border.
Only 30% new barrels were used here and 15% whole bunches. This is simply outstanding and would have no problem passing for 1er status in a blind line up.
The five terroirs in question here are Champ, En Derée, Vellé, Combes du Dessus and En Motrot, all of which are on the north side of Gevrey-Chambertin. This is always one of the best village Gevreys on the market, easily as good as many producers’ premiers crus. With 15% whole bunches and 30% new wood, this is a balanced, spicy, pithy red with glossy tannins, freshness and stylish oak. 93 points, Tim Atkin MW, Decanter

The 2017 Vat 6 Tyrrell’s Pinot Noir is gorgeous. It’s nervy and has that fabulous angular structure unique to Tyrrell’s. There is a complexity of flavour that I have not yet seen from this wine. Raspberry, strawberry and cranberry with hints of porcini mushroom and cured meat. There are also wonderful hints of oak spice […]

Ethereal and aromatic with lifted red fruits, Asian spices, laurel and crushed flowers. Medium bodied, the fruit hangs off a sleek and sappy frame, that firms up to close. Terrific, with a serious side to the otherwise easy drinking. Waters Wine Co From mature vines in the Piccadilly Valley. An elegant perfumed Pinot, with scents […]

Perfect colour; a great pinot at the dawn of its life; plum and cherry riddled with spice, char, violets and forest floor. Sophisticated and confident. 97 Points – Halliday […]
Add to cart Producer: Castle Rock EstateA beautiful 1.8ha parcel of pinot on a clay slope with many limestone rocks. This cooler site has given a wine with only 12.5-13% alcohol. Tissot’s Pinot Noir reminds you of Nuits Saint George Pinot Noir. Great acidity and tannin structure with smokiness and spiciness on the palate. Long tart flavors of cranberry, red cherry, and […]
