PRE-ARRIVAL DUE MID JUNE
This domaine has long produced Fixin from a tiny, 0.32-hectare single parcel in Champs Pennebaut, a terroir located midway up the hill on the Marsannay side of the village. Recently Mortet also purchased a parcel of old vines (60-70 years old) in the southern part of Fixin, on the border of the Gevrey AOC in a vineyard called Les Champs de Charmes. From 2014, this parcel has been a part of the blend. Both sites have the classic clay/limestone soils of the Côte d’Or, although the northern soils are considerably darker.
Five-star wine The original Mortet vineyard was Champ Pennebaut, in black soil, to which since 2014 has been added Champs des Charmes, on sand and little stones, which has brought fruit and elegance. 70% whole bunch, the recipe for this wine since 2015. Fine imperial purple, old vines millerand berries, beautifully ripe dark fruit notes, 20 hl/ha with a fresher finish to stop it becoming jammy. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Outstanding, top value Once again, there is a lovely freshness to the distinctly cool aromas of earth, the sauvage, a plethora of floral elements and essence of red currant. There is terrific vibrancy to the tension-filled medium weight flavors that brim with minerality on the highly refreshing finish that is sufficiently rich and pliant that this could be enjoyed after only a few years of bottle age. A quality Fixin villages that is worth checking out. 89-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2017 Vat 6 Tyrrell’s Pinot Noir is gorgeous. It’s nervy and has that fabulous angular structure unique to Tyrrell’s. There is a complexity of flavour that I have not yet seen from this wine. Raspberry, strawberry and cranberry with hints of porcini mushroom and cured meat. There are also wonderful hints of oak spice […]
Add to cart Producer: Tyrrell'sIt’s hard to express, but smells tighter, with some more noticeable oak. Plum, Daphne, creme de cassis, raspberry and brown spice. The structure is more evident than in the Mature Vine and is cooler, cosseted and slightly less expressive. Very long, so persistent with those trademark velvety/chalk tannins that become more firm and morph into […]
Add to cart Producer: Rippon“A little lighter in crimson purple and showing a touch of oak now. Quite powerful, not quite so harmonious but note that this has been tasted directly after the sublime Nuits-St-Georges Aux Boudots. Actually, this is a fine and nicely nuanced Vosne-Romanée.” 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy “There is a very pretty, perfumed and high-toned […]
Add to cart Producer: Benjamin LerouxFresh and floral nose with tiles, vibrant red berries and pomegranate. Stony, mineral verve. Pure and expressive with good tension on the medium-bodied palate. Silky, very nimble and elegant. Acidic red berries in the finish that cleanse the palate. So much drinkability. Drink or hold. From biodynamically grown grapes. 96 points – James Suckling.com […]
