PRE-ARRIVAL DUE MID JUNE
This domaine has long produced Fixin from a tiny, 0.32-hectare single parcel in Champs Pennebaut, a terroir located midway up the hill on the Marsannay side of the village. Recently Mortet also purchased a parcel of old vines (60-70 years old) in the southern part of Fixin, on the border of the Gevrey AOC in a vineyard called Les Champs de Charmes. From 2014, this parcel has been a part of the blend. Both sites have the classic clay/limestone soils of the Côte d’Or, although the northern soils are considerably darker.
Five-star wine The original Mortet vineyard was Champ Pennebaut, in black soil, to which since 2014 has been added Champs des Charmes, on sand and little stones, which has brought fruit and elegance. 70% whole bunch, the recipe for this wine since 2015. Fine imperial purple, old vines millerand berries, beautifully ripe dark fruit notes, 20 hl/ha with a fresher finish to stop it becoming jammy. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Outstanding, top value Once again, there is a lovely freshness to the distinctly cool aromas of earth, the sauvage, a plethora of floral elements and essence of red currant. There is terrific vibrancy to the tension-filled medium weight flavors that brim with minerality on the highly refreshing finish that is sufficiently rich and pliant that this could be enjoyed after only a few years of bottle age. A quality Fixin villages that is worth checking out. 89-91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Add to cartThe latest rendition of a cuvée that goes from strength to strength, Glantenay‘s old vine 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles offers up notions of Griotte cherries, cassis, potpourri and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, racy and concentrated, with superb depth at the core and a saline finish, it’s well worth seeking out. As I’ve written […]
Add to cartThe 2020 Volnay Village wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, dark berries, sweet spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and succulent, with melting tannins and a saline finish, it includes roughly one-third premier cru fruit. Add to cartClaude makes one of the great Bourgogne Pinot Noirs, he is often the winner of the La Revue du Vin de France tasting when they do it – he did it with his 2016 (see image at the bottom) and this 2018 is super again. Crafted from the Pommard and Chassagne area, in 2018 the bouquet […]
