David Moreau Santenay Beauregard 1er Cru 2022

The 2022 Santenay Beauregard ler Cru comes from vines located at a higher altitude, above the windmill overlooking the namesake village on clayey marn soils. This feels quite complex, with raspberry, blackberry and briar scents on the nose and a touch of white pepper and licorice (Moreau dubs it his “little Syrah”). The medium-bodied palate has sappy black fruit and gentle grip. It’s quite a structured Santenay with black pepper and clove towards the finish. Again, a bit aloof at the moment, but a Santenay will come into its own in bottle. Top drawer. 92-94 points – Neal Martin, Vinous.com October 23
