Claude Marechal Cuvee Gravel Bourgogne Rouge 2018

$75.00

Claude makes one of the great Bourgogne Pinot Noirs, he is often the winner of the La Revue du Vin de France tasting when they do it – he did it with his 2016 (see image at the bottom) and this 2018 is super again.  Crafted from the Pommard and Chassagne area, in 2018 the bouquet is again lovely, wafting from the glass in a fine blend of raspberries, black cherries, sweet soil tone and violets. On the palate the wine is medium bodied, lithe, focused and long, with a sappy core, good transparency and fine tension and grip on the long and vibrant finish. Another serious beauty from Claude! Andrew Guard – Importer

Since 1981, Catherine and Claude Maréchal have been making precise, elegant and finely scented wines from their 10 hectares scattered on six Côte de Beaune communes. Inspired by Henri Jayer, the Maréchal’s offer incredibly fine wines, which are pure and sleek with vibrant fruit and great potential to age.

The grapes are hand-harvested ripe and no chemical fertilisers are used. The bunches are hand-sorted and gently de-stemmed before vinification using natural yeasts. Matured in oak barrels for between 10 and 15 months. These are the complete Burgundy wines – with admirable concentration, purity and finesse combined with texture and balance.
