Chandon de Briailles Corton-Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2015

$450.00

At an average age of 60 years old, Chandon de Briailles’ has some of the oldest vines in the Clos du Roi. This is a vineyard situated high on the Corton slope. The soil is rich in white Bathonian limestone and it’s these rocky origins, the high altitude and the south east aspect of the site, that combine to make this one of the truly great Corton terroirs.

Not without reason did Louis XI confiscate this vineyard for his own purposes! It remained as the Clos du Roi until the French Revolution three centuries later. The wine comes from just 0.4 hectares of vines that produce tiny bunches and berries. The 2015 is simply magic. So perfumed and floral and fine with wild red fruits and white strawberry notes. Seductive too, until the savoury, powdery tannins kick in and you’re reminded that you’re in a great Corton terroir. Super impressive length. 100% whole bunch as always.
