ChaLou Pinot Noir 2023

A fantastic pinot noir from Orange. Terrific complexity with hedge fruits, liqueur cherry, poached plum and blueberry. There is a lot of detail, with layers of flavour and texture. Interwoven notes of Amaro, savoury spice and fresh compost. Plenty of flesh on the mid palate, the fruit becoming sweeter and more pure as the wine drives towards the sandy tannin close. Very fine. With 50% whole bunch. Bing cherries, black raspberry and Davidson plum. Thistle and winter pine, rosemary and anise. Compact in black fruit pulp, while acidity chugs along with silky skin tannins. There is olive fleck with black sesame and clove. Lovely middle-palate structure, restraint on oak use and a meaty quality. This shows Orange pinot in its purest form with substance and a good interplay of structural integrity. 95 points – Halliday Wine Companion
