The Cavallotto 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis (a certified organic wine) is a lovely expression with fruit from one of the most beautiful sites in Castiglione Falletto, measuring 7.3 hectares. The wine is streamlined and tight with forest berry, blackcurrant and spice. It is taut and silky, showing fruit that has been shaped by cool nights and warm days. Bricco Boschis always delivers a special sense of sharpness and focus. 94 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
Capturing the freshness and finesse of the vintage, this has classic varietal aromas of rose petal, forest berry, camphor and underbrush. Reflecting the nose, the vibrant, focused palate delivers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, wild mint and star anise set against taut, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. 95 points, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
Muscular and powerful, don’t search for elegance here. Bricco Boschis is an old style Barolo typical of Alfio Cavallotto and his passion for authentic wines. The concentration and power are impressive for the 2018 vintage. Prunes and leather, leafy lightness, a touch of orange and an almost grapefruit note are sustained by firm acidity on a large, full, biting palate built for the long haul, filled out with youthful fruit concentration. 94 points, Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter
The Bricco Boschis Cru is a truly profound vineyard; an amphitheatre-shaped site that produces this estate’s most emblematic Barolo. This comes from vines with an average age of 50 years, mostly situated in two parcels within this single vineyard. The first is the Punta Marcello, which lies at the top of the slope next to the cantina. This cool terroir is known for its fragrant, pale juice and long, angular tannins.
Then, there is the Vigna Colle Sudovest parcel, lying at a lower elevation and facing south. This is the warmest microclimate of the vineyard and so the fruit from these vines produces fleshier and more accessible wines, with darker, more richly flavoured juice and softer tannins. The renowned Vigna San Giuseppe vines also contribute something to the blend, and together these three components form a complete picture of the Cru; complementing each other and building aromatic and structural complexity into the final blend. The 2018 saw between 25 and 35 days on skins, followed by three years in cask, ranging in size from 20 to 100 hectolitres. It was bottled unfiltered.
Myers’ drop-dead gorgeous Langhe bottling is based on two 30-plus-year-old parcels of Nebbiolo rooted at the foot of Barbaresco’s famous Ronchi Cru. This celebrated, limestone-rich site runs along the southern belt of the appellation, near the town of Barbaresco itself. The deeper soils of the vineyard’s lower climbs gives a more open style of wine—exactly […]
Add to cart Producer: Cantina D'ArcyCabernet off the Sheaok Vineyard, and it’s a beauty (although it comes in a way-too-heavy bottle about 1.5kg when full). No complaints about the flavour profile of blackberry essence and cassis, cedary oak spices and toasted nori, black olive tapenade and menthol. It’s fuller bodied with a ping of lively acidity, and the tannins are […]
Add to cart Producer: NocturneThe estate’s emblematic wine and without a doubt, one of the best Australian Nebbiolo’s. I love the acceptance of vintage and site. Every year this wine (and the others for all that) is different, embracing the vintage conditions and the vagaries of site. This is much burlier and more rugged compared to the Mezzo Nebbiolo […]
Add to cart Producer: Traviarti“The 2020 Nebbiolo d’Alba emerges from the part of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio that is in Alba (as opposed to in Barbaresco). Wild cherry, cedar, tobacco, spice, dried herbs and blood orange are some of the many aromas and flavors that open in the glass. Mid-weight structure and polished tannins add to its considerable appeal.” 93 […]
