The Cavallotto 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis (a certified organic wine) is a lovely expression with fruit from one of the most beautiful sites in Castiglione Falletto, measuring 7.3 hectares. The wine is streamlined and tight with forest berry, blackcurrant and spice. It is taut and silky, showing fruit that has been shaped by cool nights and warm days. Bricco Boschis always delivers a special sense of sharpness and focus. 94 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
Capturing the freshness and finesse of the vintage, this has classic varietal aromas of rose petal, forest berry, camphor and underbrush. Reflecting the nose, the vibrant, focused palate delivers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, wild mint and star anise set against taut, refined tannins. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. 95 points, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast
Muscular and powerful, don’t search for elegance here. Bricco Boschis is an old style Barolo typical of Alfio Cavallotto and his passion for authentic wines. The concentration and power are impressive for the 2018 vintage. Prunes and leather, leafy lightness, a touch of orange and an almost grapefruit note are sustained by firm acidity on a large, full, biting palate built for the long haul, filled out with youthful fruit concentration. 94 points, Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter
The Bricco Boschis Cru is a truly profound vineyard; an amphitheatre-shaped site that produces this estate’s most emblematic Barolo. This comes from vines with an average age of 50 years, mostly situated in two parcels within this single vineyard. The first is the Punta Marcello, which lies at the top of the slope next to the cantina. This cool terroir is known for its fragrant, pale juice and long, angular tannins.
Then, there is the Vigna Colle Sudovest parcel, lying at a lower elevation and facing south. This is the warmest microclimate of the vineyard and so the fruit from these vines produces fleshier and more accessible wines, with darker, more richly flavoured juice and softer tannins. The renowned Vigna San Giuseppe vines also contribute something to the blend, and together these three components form a complete picture of the Cru; complementing each other and building aromatic and structural complexity into the final blend. The 2018 saw between 25 and 35 days on skins, followed by three years in cask, ranging in size from 20 to 100 hectolitres. It was bottled unfiltered.
This 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo is a fantastic introduction to the Cigliuti style of pure, ripe fruit framed by supple tannins and cleansing acidity. A lighter style Cigliuti but by no means light. Classic aromas of cherries and roses lead onto a fine yet sumptuous palate. 100% Nebbiolo from 15-year old vines growing on the Bricco […]
Add to cartIntense and lifted aromatics of earth and floral notes. Sweet red fruits, cherry, raspberry, cranberry, pastille black fruits, Lavender wood and sage. Rich, expansive, pure, ethereal and intense. Nutmeg, meaty notes, fresh compost, blackberry, ripe red fruits and tobacco leaf tannins. Loose knit, open and ready to drink now – the threads of tannin are […]
Add to cart Producer: Cascina delle RoseLike the vast majority of the Rocca wines, the Nebbiolo d’Alba derives from a single site–again a parcel right on the southern border of the Barbaresco region in the Seno d’Elvio subzone. The Nebbiolo vines here vary in age from 15 to 60 years. The 2018 was matured for 12 months in large Austrian and […]
Add to cartCabernet off the Sheaok Vineyard, and it’s a beauty (although it comes in a way-too-heavy bottle about 1.5kg when full). No complaints about the flavour profile of blackberry essence and cassis, cedary oak spices and toasted nori, black olive tapenade and menthol. It’s fuller bodied with a ping of lively acidity, and the tannins are […]
