100% Nebbiolo, Ovello is one of the most famous sites in the entire Barbaresco wine growing region. The elegance and intensity of this wine is conferred by the perfectly situated location of the vine: on the hills above the Tanaro River with S/SW exposure and a limestone and sandy soil. Equally delicious young or aged.
The estate’s benchmark wine, the 2016 Barbaresco Ovello reveals a pretty, open-knit personality with beautifully concentrated fruit. Dark cherry, blackberry and plum is framed by tar, campfire ash and powdered licorice. The Ovello cru opens onto a large panorama of vines and a sudden drop down to the Tanaro River. These vines at Cantina del Pino enjoy wide open spaces and slightly milder temperatures as a result. These conditions give the wine an open and generous approach. A mere 6,000 bottles were made. – 95 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
