Hand picked across a plot of 80yo bush vines. 30% whole bunches, wild-yeast fermented in concrete eggs and matured in large-format used oak and concrete. The beauty of this wine belies the label. Among the finest reds in Australia. A turbid mid ruby. Damson plum, strawberry, clove, rosemary, anise and turmeric flavours. A sandy weld of impeccable tannins, drawn taut and long by a beam of saline freshness. Ethereal and transparent. A blessed Australian site and an uncanny semblance to Rayas. 97 Points – Ned Goodwin MW, Halliday Wine Companion 2022
Sourced from one 75 year old vineyard, the bush trained vines on pure sand yield a wine of immense purity and power that is both light and intense at the same time. Highly aromatic with notes of sandalwood, dried orange, violets and wood spice on the nose, it follows through to a palate that is paradoxically elegant and vibrant but concentrated and persistent. Silky smooth with a glossy, highly attractive palate of wild strawberry, violets and the merest hint of cinnamon and woodsmoke. Achingly beautiful but deliciously drinkable all at once.
