Them tannins. Whoa. Italianate and fine, a swish and web that sucks and pulls, draws long and gives this beautiful shape to the mellifluous, come-hither dark fruit and wild herb n spice that features so heavily in this wine. Amazing perfume, a little quieter than 2018 but with all the appeal and flighty, floral and spice fragrance of best grenache from anywhere. Pent up, tight, precise and pure, the palate is a masterpiece example of the variety. That tension, that length! All here. Such a good wine. 96+ points – Mike Bennie, The Winefront
The fruit was hand-picked from established bush vine Grenache on Swinney’s Frankland River vineyard, berry sorted and emptied to small wooden and stainless steel fermenters via gravity. 16% whole bunches and wild fermentation built structure and texture and provides the framework on which to express the distinctive aromatics and flavours of Grenache. The wine spent two weeks on skins prior to pressing directly to fine grained large format seasoned French oak. Aged for 11 months before bottling. Made with minimal sulphur and bottled unfined and minimally filtered. Bright deep and complex with fresh cranberry, brambly fruit, light spice, red licorice and musk sticks. This wine is classically medium bodied with lovely clarity. Maraschino cherries, rhubarb and all spice compliment crunchy red berry fruits. Fine structural tannins provide a great definition to the long, intense and full-flavoured palate.
