Domaine Chignard Fleurie Les Moriers 2018

I seem to have missed, or not reviewed, the 2016 and 2017, which is odd, given I love this producer. Must have been busy doing something else at the time…  Average age of vines is 80 years old, and gee, when Fleurie is good, it’s compelling for its perfume and energy, not least its 100 watt charm. Ripe red berries, perfume, almond paste and spice, a pleasant whiff of permanent marker. Medium-bodied, juicy but with freshness of just ripe strawberry acidity, depth of fruit, something like a cocoa powder quality to the tannin, brightness and tang on a long clean finish. Yes. 94 points – Gary Walsh, The Winefront
