Everything about the Charly Thevenet Grain & Granit Regnie 2018 is vivid. The wine is ruby coloured and almost shockingly bright. Wildy aromatic, it has a vibrant compote of red fruits, including strawberry, raspberry and cranberry. Sappy spice and minerals complete the picture. The palate is stuffed with juicy concentration and yet it is light on its feet. Buoyant. Unbelievable complexity of fruit, running the whole gamut of red, to blue, to black. It’s as if a bag of minerals has been put into soak alongside lithe and silky tannins. Incredible, sexy Beaujolais. 600 cases only.
Brightly lit, spice and perfume, but all about the red fruits here, and there’s plenty of that action happening. A dusting of fine grained tannin, some redcurrant and cranberry crunch, fresh picked strawberry in particular, and perhaps some milk chocolate coming through on the finish. So lovely for its fresh and not-trying-too-hard approach. 92 points – Gary Walsh, The Winefront
