To be ‘Contre-Pied’ is to be diametrically opposed to something. In this case, this organic, carbonic Duras is the opposite of the rustic, sleepy winemaking associated with this variety, and plenty of Gaillac rouge in general. This wine originates from a block of clay and limestone soil in Cahuzac-sur-Vère belonging to a family friend of the Plageoles. The winemaking takes in a short carbonic maceration (eight days) followed by six months ageing in concrete tank. Florent Plageoles told us that he had the feeling that Duras grapes would take to the Beaujolais treatment, et viola, Contre-Pied has now become a mainstay of the Plageoles roster (the 2016 is the second vintage). The feeling is something similar to the Bro’cool, with a fleshier, more opulent feel. In short a super delicious and unique carbo styled red!
